VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Sunday mornings during the 9:30 and 11:15 Masses

Volunteer Registration Form

CATECHIST – As effective models of the Catholic faith, catechists help stimulate a child’s faith development. A structured curriculum, lesson plans and all teaching materials are provided to help the catechist prepare Sunday morning classroom activities. Each catechist is assigned two assistants.

CATECHIST ASSISTANT (ADULT) – Assistants work closely with the lead catechist in whatever capacity the two agree upon. Assistants are often the “extra set of hands” so very much needed when working with small children. While the assistant does not have the primary responsibility for planning the classroom activities, he or she may occasionally be asked to do so in the absence of the catechist.

TEEN CATECHIST ASSISTANT – Youth, grades 6 and up, are encouraged to volunteer as a catechist’s assistant. A teen assistant’s responsibilities are the same as an adult catechist assistant’s; however, a teen assistant will never be asked to teach the class. This is a wonderful way for middle or high school students to earn service hours.

SUBSTITUTE CATECHIST OR ASSISTANT – Catechists and assistants are asked to arrange for a substitute if they are unable to attend a scheduled class. This is a very flexible way to volunteer in the program.

CRAFT PREPARATION – There is a frequent need for volunteers to help cut or prepare crafts, make copies, stuff folders, etc.

Please note: For the protection of all children, Archdiocesan policy requires that all parish volunteers who have substantial contact with children complete STAND training. This training includes completing a volunteer application form (including a criminal background check) and attending a STAND video training session offered here at St. Louis.
