The Sacrament of Baptism

Image of stained glass window depicting the sacrament of Baptism“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” – Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213

Infant Baptism

Congratulations! Baptism is a beginning of the child’s faith life. As the child grows and matures, parents are the first and most important teachers of the faith, as you lead your child into a deeper relationship with Christ by your words and your example. Baptism of infants and young children are celebrated for families who are members of the parish. Parents must attend a preparation session before the baptism can be scheduled. Email Bonnie Bajrak at bbajrak@stlouisparish.org for more information.

Youth Baptism

We are excited to walk alongside your family as your school age child embarks on this beautiful journey of faith! Getting started is easy! Please contact the Faith Formation Office at (410) 531-6688 for more information.

Adult Baptism

Adults preparing for baptism go through a process known as Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA). Persons discerning their call to become Catholic generally attend classes for one year prior to the Easter Vigil. All adults are baptized at the Easter Vigil, and receive the sacrament of Confirmation immediately after their baptism. Adults then receive Eucharist for the first time during the same liturgy. Email Deacon Frank Sarro at fsarro@stlouisparish.org for more information.

Parish registration is required for the Sacrament of Baptism or a sponsor verification letter. Call the parish office at (410) 531-6040 to register or request a sponsor verification letter.
