Haiti Committee
Since 1997, Saint Louis Church and Saint John The Evangelist Center in Gonaives, Haiti have worked together to build an ongoing personal, cultural, spiritual, and financial relationship. Our sister parish in Haiti supports a large elementary school and an adult learning center for young women.
Saint Louis provides salaries for all teachers at the center and has supported a large number of projects to improve the center. Through yearly visits, phone calls, e-mails and now video conferencing, members of these two faith communities strive to work together for the benefit of each other.
The relationship with St. John the Evangelist Center in Gonaives has grown deeper and more fruitful over the years. We have supported our sister parish through hurricanes, floods, political upheaval, and the transition of a new order of nuns to run the Center. We know that we have received as much, or more, than we have given, through witnessing the work of our brothers and sisters in Christ helping those most in need. The faith and prayers of our sister parish sustain us in our work to provide financial help.
For more information on the work being accomplished in Haiti and updates on current projects and visits please see our Saint John the Evangelist, Gonaives Haiti Milestones.
